The difference between rigid keratoconus contact lenses and soft keratoconus contact lenses

• Generally, rigid keratoconus contact lenses will achieve better visual acuity than soft contact lenses.
• Another advantage of rigid keratoconus contact lenses has to do with the lenses' expiration time. The expiration for rigid keratoconus contact lenses is lower than the soft keratoconus contact lenses.
• The cost of maintenance (cleaning, disinfection, and treatment) of rigid keratoconus contact lenses is slightly lower than the cost of maintaining soft keratoconus contact lenses.
• The only advantage of using soft keratoconus contact lenses is the ease of application.

Choosing keratoconus contact lenses

The type and diameter of the keratoconus lens is determined according to the severity of the keratoconus, the location of the cone, the palpebral fissure, the size and shape of the cone, the cone vaults, the structure of the cornea and the sclera. For nipple cone keratoconus, it is best to start with a small diameter keratoconus contact lens. For oval cone keratoconus, which is located inferotemporally, it is preferable to start with a large diameter.
